This oil varnish is based on an old Italian recipe, hence Italianate not Italian.
The oils and balms used give a softer lacquer with a superb finish which remains slightly elastic and not brittle in any way. This helps produce a very good vibrancy and soft tone resonance.
With a longer drying time than the 1A oil varnish care needs to be taken as the finish can be pressure sensitive in heat due to the soft resins used.
